This session will help physical therapists optimize total knee arthroplasty (TKA) outcomes by providing an overview of recent innovations in surgical post-TKA rehabilitation. A nationally renowned Orthopaedics surgeon, who is also a physical therapist, will provide insights into surgical factors to consider with rehabilitation, early postoperative pain management strategies, and effective communication with the surgical team. The presenters will also describe innovative methods for leveraging health systems data to predict patient recovery trajectories and individualize care while reducing costs. The measurement and management of early postoperative swelling and the relation to strength and functioning will also be discussed.
