Empowering the Next Generation

At Joint Active Systems (JAS), our dedicated mission is to design, manufacture, and distribute high-quality, innovative, cost-effective products for the rehabilitation market based on proven clinical and scientific principles. We also believe in the importance of fostering the next generation of professionals in the field of manufacturing and orthotics and prosthetics. Recently, a group of students from Effingham Regional Career Academy (ERCA) had the unique opportunity to tour our facility, learn from our experts, and even meet an amputee who has benefited from the services provided by JAS.

A Firsthand Learning Experience

The students were given an exclusive tour of our manufacturing facility, where they witnessed firsthand how our medical devices are made. From the craft of forming custom-molded cuffs to the rigorous process that goes into creating a prosthetic device, the students gained valuable insight into the process behind the technology that helps improve patient lives. It was a realistic glimpse into the healthcare and manufacturing industries, showcasing the innovation, craftsmanship, and dedication involved in every product we create.

Presentation and a Patient Story of Resilience

The tour also included an informative presentation by Marina Ayoub, our Orthotics & Prosthetics (O&P) Resident, who shared her expertise with the students. Marina, who is deeply passionate about the field, explained the principles of orthotics and prosthetics, the various types of devices we create, and how these devices can transform the lives of people living with mobility challenges. She emphasized the combination of science, engineering, and patient care that go into the creation of devices manufactured at our facility.

Perhaps the most powerful part of the presentation is when the students had the privilege of meeting one of our amputee patients, who graciously shared his personal story. Listening to and learning from a real-life account of what it takes to overcome the challenges of amputation and embracing the life-changing benefits of prosthetics left a lasting impact on the students. The patient’s story was a vivid reminder of the important work we do at JAS – our devices do more than just restore function; they help individuals regain their independence, confidence, and quality of life.

Why JAS is Invested in Education

At JAS, we’re committed to supporting the development of future leaders in healthcare and technology. The visit from ERCA students aligns with our broader goal of giving back to the community and encouraging the pursuit of careers in manufacturing, orthotics, prosthetics, and healthcare engineering. By providing access to our facility and professionals who are passionate about their work, we hope to inspire the students to consider these fields as they begin to chart their own career paths.

We’re grateful to ERCA for giving us the opportunity to share our passion and work with the next generation and look forward to seeing how these students will apply what they’ve learned in their future careers. Whether they pursue a path in engineering, healthcare, or beyond, we are confident that the experience at JAS will leave a lasting impact on them.
