Study on Static Progressive Stretch and Arthrofibrosis

Arthrofibrosis is a relatively common complication after a Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) that can significantly impact knee function and quality of life.

This study followed 25 patients with knee stiffness following TKA. All patients had manipulation under anesthesia and a standard course of physical therapy and saw continued stiffness and unsatisfactory improvement afterwards.

These patients used a JAS SPS Knee device and followed the standard 30 minute 3 times per day protocol. Treatment was continued until no further improvement was measured for at least one week.

The results were that all patients experienced increased Range of Motion in knee flexion, knee extension, and total arc of motion following the use of the JAS device. The median total knee ROM gain was 25° with an average use of 7 weeks. Patient satisfaction averaged 9 on a 1-10 scale!

The study concluded that SPS orthoses increase total knee range of motion when experiencing Arthrofibrosis following TKA!
